Interview with NAIL ICON: Naomi Yasuda

Naomi is Manicurist that I really look up to. Her work is fun and reflects that fact that she truly love doing nails. Her clientele includes Lady Gaga, Keri Hilson, Alicia Keys and many more. She has also worked on ads for Chanel and Fendi.

1. What's your favorite product?
Calgel, no damage, long lasting, and you can get any design.

2. What's one implement you can't live without?
Cuticles nipper and metal pusher(I've been useing same ones for 10years)

3. Who is your nail guru?
Myself

4. Where do you find inspiration?
Everywhere, street, music, fashion, I believe everything can be my nail design object.

5. What's your favorite nail shape?
I personally like long pointy shape, and its in style now.

6 .Where are you from?
Japan



7. Do you attend conventions/trade shows? Which ones?
I was invited to tokyo-beauty expo last year, I did demonstration and speech. I had a honor to do it.

8. Why nails?
I always took nails very seriously. If I have dirty nails or don't have anything on my nails, I'm embarrassed. (Its like same feeling going out without make up) You need a mirror to look your make up and hair, but you can always see your nails without it. Nails are very small canvas but, it has unlimited possibilities.

9. What is your most common service?
Gel nails

10. Advice for veterans?
Love your job. And keep practicing. Have big vision for your future.
I am still learning everyday.



11. How did you get started?
I used to do my friends and my sister's nails when I was kid as a fun. And I knew I was really good at it. Also I always wanted to work in beauty industry.

12. How would you describe your nail art style?
I don't want to have any particular style, I want to keep myself flexible. Everyone has different style, its very important to be able to work for any type of job and client.

13. What is your favorite trend right now?
Tribal, Metal,earth tone color, etc..

14. What is the best way to network?
Work hard. Have equal respect to everyone.

15. Where do you work?
Creative management NYC and hello beautiful salon brooklyn.

16. Do you work in a salon or do you freelance?
I work at a salon in Williamsburg in brooklyn( only weekends fri,sat, sun) and on weekdays I freelance.

17. Which do you prefer
I like both. both are necessary to me.
